Pro:
*waterPROOF. That is, take it in the bathtub, hot tub, or the pool with you. Set it out in the pouring rain overnight. It'll be fine. Triple grommeted, it's rated to immersion at about 6 feet for 60 minutes. I'd believe that. More moisture protection than you'll ever need.
*Shockproof (almost): whack the case with a ball-peen hammer? Sure. Why not. You will ding the case, but the lappie will be unaffected, and probably the case will still perform its job. This is a completely rigid case, with very effective foam lining. Bang a wall, a railing, drop a full beer stein on it? Real world events, no worries. Been there and done it.
*pressure valve keeps moisture out and stops problems with changing air pressure some hard cases have (pop open or won't open)
*pluck-to-fit: my 2011 MBP fits snugly, and so will any 15 or 13 inch laptop, as you choose
*TSA often lets it pass through carry-on scanner closed, since it contained ONLY the laptop, and there is no metal in the case (except perhaps the hinge pins). The only case I have ever even SEEN receive this treatment.
*I like the look: it looks tough, but not so much like a military transit case as the 1080 model did. Basic black and clean lines.
*It slings comfortably.
*This case will last as longer as two laptops, on average.
Con:
*There is a small possibility of the latch inadvertently being flipped open by your belt or another object while running or jumping. I loop a small elastic zip cord through one of the lock-loops (there are two) and that eliminates the remotest chance of that happening. A small travel lock, rubber band, or twist-tie would work also. Remote problem for most users.
*This is not so compact as a foam or semi-rigid laptop sleeve. The 1095 will probably not fit inside your carry-on, knapsack, or messenger bag (it does fit in my large TB2 D-Lux)
*It is not actually bullet-proof so won't save your life if people shoot real bullets at you (arrows, probably, yes)
If you are serious about protecting your prized and valuable laptop from water/liquid, shocks/blows/bangs this case is hard to beat. In its size, it is impossible to beat. There is a reason militaries use Pelican (and quite a few private soldiers for their personal gear). Highly recommended, without reservation.
1. The case IS water proof. When reading reviews, I saw many complaining of "gaps" in the corner, one deetadee even took pictures with coins sticking out of it! HA! While it superficially shows a gap big enough to fit quarters in, the edge actually seals under this gap. Another reviewer stated they dunked their case in water to test? Well so did I! I dunked the case in my kitchen sink. When I opened the case, the inside was completely dry, in fact, when the lever was released air THEN rushed out and pressure released like a soda can. Again, the insides are bone dry and no water has crypt in. I don't care if the corners are 2 inches apart, the case keeps water out. Is it made to go diving? Probably not but it will keep your device dry in a couple of meters or feet of liquids.
2. "Faulty" latch issue, ok? Another "issue" many speak about is that the latch itself is faulty. While it is true, these cases don't bare the traditional trunk style clamp latches that many have come to know in the Pelican brand, there is nothing "faulty" about the latch on this model. The one lever design actually renders the case very easy to open, which I am sure for the halfwitted, this can mean faulty but easy isn't "faulty". If you were to pry at this case, throw it in the air, flip it around, it's simply not going to pop open. In fact, if pressurized enough or of water comes in contact with the seal, mine will need to be pulled apart with force, even w/ the latch open. Furthermore, if you are concerned about your investment, the case is even designed to secure the latch wth a lock. So forget gravity, it'll even keep our thieves!
The actually draw backs... While completely subjective, I think the main opportunity in this design is the overall size and weight. The case does its job but leaves my 13 inch MacBook as bulky as the biggest 15 inch whatever. Where it lacks in portability, however it makes up in price and durability. Seriously, they sell flimsy sleeves at this price point! Other than that, a lack of a true handle is also disappointing. While it comes with a shoulder strap, the size of this model begs for a traditional handle grip or at least an option for it. Lastly, the advertised photo shows a camper using their laptop right out of the case with the top flipped up and propped. You CAN'T really do this as the top does not prop up on its own.
All in all, this case does what it claims. Where it truly lacks is in its overall design, meaning it does not bare the standard classic trimmings of what many consider pelican to be about. It's for this reason I believe other reviewers have spoken poorly about it, they see a new design and think "faulty". While I prefer the classic design/style over the new, there is no other product on the market currently that works this good. So basically, I put this case up again your clam shells and sleeves all day! Hope this helped? :)
Top reviews from other countries
This case is repeatedly marketed as designed for up to 15” laptops.
I have a 2019 16” MacBook Pro and it fits with just the perfect amount of room to spare.
Had the other case choices on Amazon not been so clunky I would not have taken the time to research dimensions vs this case.
However I’m glad I did. This case represents the perfect combination of protection and slimness.
There is no excess bulk to this case and as it comes with a nice strap it’s a perfect traveller on its own. You will have to carry your charger & mouse elsewhere though - no big deal.
It’s not just for 15” laptops!
Thank you Pelican!
